Damn, damn DAMN

I assume most of you saw the news report of what happened recently. As thinking about it just enrages me further, I'll just say this:

Some days, I really hate this city.

An update on that Mr. Fusion we've found:

I've been tinkering with it, and succeeded on getting one of the containers we found attached to the bottom. Wanting to see what would happen, I placed some trash inside and turned it on.

It gave me an "Ineffective radiation shielding" message and turned itself off again.

So I suppose it TECHNICALLY works, we just can't use it for its intended purpose. Though, really, the safeguards are a good thing.

Please Remember Me by Tim McGraw

I have a secret. Whenever I say I’m eager for the Rift to be fixed so that we can all go home –

I’m lying.

Well, sort of. Yes, I do want to go home, if only to see Marty again. But there’s something about going back that scares me. The Rift changed us when we came through. If we reverse the Rift and go back, do we reverse the changes? I – I don’t care so much about my weather powers, those are a pain in the ass as much as a blessing, but –

I don’t want to go back to having no memories. I like that I can remember my past. That I know who I am. If I went back and found I couldn’t remember anything again. . . .

I don’t want to forget. Memories are precious. I cannot forget again. I just can’t. If I forgot again, if I lost everything from here. . . .

Don’t make me forget.

I've been examining those pieces you got at that store -- you really did find some interesting objects! I'd really like to get a look at the place in person. What's the best time available for you? My schedule is wide open.
clockwork_doc: (friends together)
Do you have a pet?

Not here, but I did back home. A little mutt named Copernicus. Don’t know what breed he was exactly, I picked him up from the pound. He was a fluffy dog, prone to shedding. He was named after Nicholas Copernicus, the first European astronomer to formulate and publish the theory that our solar system was heliocentric – that is, that the Earth and other planets revolved around the sun, instead of the sun and other planets revolving around the Earth. Copernicus’s work was a key part in starting the Scientific Revolution and advancing the knowledge of astronomy. I’ve always named my pets after famous scientists, and when I got my puppy I was rather interested in studying the stars, so. . . . He was a good dog – loved to chew on everything, though. Smart as his namesake too. I’d taught him quite a number of tricks before –

I left him at home the night I left. I expected to be back in just a few hours. . . . (Damn it, why do half of these prompts have to remind me of everything I left behind?!)

I've given my characters a healthy dose of Veritaserum and now they have to tell the truth. What does this mean for you? Ask my characters questions about anything and everything and they will truthfully answer it.

Soul

What do you believe the soul is, if you believe in them at all?

My own opinion on the matter: I believe they exist, I’m just not sure of the specifics on how they work. All I really know is that, in Arcadia, I felt like there was something missing -- something that's returned now that I'm here in Chicago. And when I died – I know I saw something beyond

Assuming that's a nickname

Hello,

I was told to contact you by Dan Faraday about getting a protective amulet. Do you mind if I ask what exactly your amulets do? I have no doubt they work as advertised, I'm just curious about the possible limitations.

Today, sometime this evening, I will have been in Chicago for one full year.

One year. Can you believe it? When I first arrived, I wasn't thinking ahead like this. I never considered the idea that I could be here for a year. And longer. (Granted, when I first arrived, I had a number of other things on my mind.)

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Especially since two of my friends are either dead or missing yet again

Hello everyone,

My name is Dr. Emmett Brown -- I'm one of the Wanderers here in Chicago. I'd like to offer my services as a sort of handyman/repairman for anyone who needs one. Back in my home world, I was a fairly prolific inventor, and I repaired a lot of my own appliances. I've got a lot of knowledge about how most machines work, and a lot of experience. I also have some special abilities with machines I picked up before my trip through the Rift -- I can temporarily repair devices without proper tools or parts or cause machines to temporarily run better. (Emphasis on temporarily, I'm afraid -- none of it will last longer than a day. I can also technically cause minor damage to things just by touching them, but I don't think any of you would be interested in that.)

I'm currently staying in the basement of the Conrad Hotel, though I can meet you in the lobby if need be. Pricing will be on a case-by-case basis, and I'm willing to be flexible, especially in the case of fellow Wanderers.

So, yes, if you have anything you need fixed, you can bring it to me and I'll see what I can do.

Posting two today -- I've got a bunch of these clogging up my computer and I figured I ought to start sharing them.

Originally done over at [livejournal.com profile] docsgirl (well, one of them was), I'm reposting them here for completeness's sake. Yes, even after I did a 100-question meme earlier. There's a little new information, damn it!

First, Doc answers 14 questions in-character:
Talking About My Life )

And second, 20 questions that seem to have a bent for sex, which means some embarrassment for poor Doc.
Though The Angst Is Strong Too )

All right, those bastards killed someone else today. I want to know where all of you are. I have to know you're in a safe place. Or what passes for safe around this goddamn city.

I'm not I can't

Please get back to me as soon as possible.
clockwork_doc: (unwell)
I just want to share my condolences with anyone else affected by the recent tragedy. Aubrey was a good friend of mine -- one of the first people I met when I came through the Rift. I spent quite a bit of time with xem while xe was living at the Conrad. After xe moved to the Gauche, we didn't see each other so much, but I still --

[Water stains here]

I'm going to miss xem a lot, and I'm sure you all are too.

I wish I could DO something DAMN THAT STEAM Let's hope someone's able to stop these bastards soon.
clockwork_doc: (damn damn damn)
All right, JD appears to be unharmed, but how about the rest of you? I suppose you all know better than to go near that coffee shop by now, but. . . .

Damn it, and I was getting used to the quiet too

If you see anything you think my particular talents could help with, let me know.
clockwork_doc: (thoughts on the opposite sex)
What did it feel the first time you fell in love?

Great Scott, the first time I fell in love. . .well, honestly, I felt a little dizzy at first. (Perhaps that's where the expression "lovesick" comes from?) I also felt incredibly shy and nervous. Very prone to blushing. I was only a teenager back then, so I guess it was to be expected. Lucy seemed to handle it much better.

Of course, as it turned out, she didn’t love me back, so. . . .

It was rather the same when I fell in love with Jill – nervous, dizzy, occasionally clumsy, but still happy and hopeful. Then she –

I don’t have much luck with girlfriends. Anyone have a “first time falling in love” story that has something resembling a happy ending?
clockwork_doc: (building things)
If anyone needs me, I'm going to be up on the roof practicing some wind control. And perhaps testing out my new glider-coat a little. (No, I'm not going to jump off the roof. I merely figured it would be a nice, private place with little chance of knocking anything over.)

So, yes, if you want to see me in the next hour or so, I'll be up there.
clockwork_doc: (explaining things)
I got this off [livejournal.com profile] kineticmachine and [livejournal.com profile] sarkraticmethod a while ago. I got stuck on question 90 for a good long while, so that's why this is only going up now. Hope you enjoy anyway!
